Role Purpose

Sourced Market’s strategy is to create markets that are places of discovery, full of exciting food  and drink products that will inspire our customers. The Head of Buying role needs to define our range selection &  strategy that fulfils this brand vision and that constantly innovates, staying ahead of others in the sector. 

This will involve careful research and active participation in the food and drink scene, establishing strong relationships with new producers. The Head of Buying candidate must be commercially highly skilled and capable of setting and working towards challenging KPIs. Detailed analysis of sales and margin data is critical to the performance of the business and the Head of Buying must use all the tools at their disposal to grow both sales and margin to help the business achieve its ambitious targets. 

A passion for great food and drink is essential as to ensure Sourced Market remains ahead of the curve.  The Head of Buying will need to be fully immersed in the food scene, from markets and street food to restaurants and small producers across the UK and globally. Passion is required both to inspire everyone else on the team and to form strong relationships with our suppliers.

The Head of Buying will work closely with training, merchandising and marketing, helping shape these parts of  the business to ensure we communicate the stories about our great products and suppliers to our  customers.

Sourced Market also plans to launch an own-brand range and has ambitions to become the destination for  artisan food and drink both off and online. The Head of Buying will play a critical role in both important  projects.

Above all, we are looking for a team player who is excited by both the opportunity and the challenges of  creating and growing a strong national brand that will lead the artisan food and drink sector. 


The Role:

Key Responsibilities:

Main areas of responsibility
● Sourcing and developing new items for the Markets
● Negotiating the best terms with existing suppliers
● Analysing and improving profitability
● Driving revenue growth through innovation
● Reduction of net cost price and overall cost of sales 

Daily Tasks:
● Understand and utilise internal data and local market analysis to look at Sourced Market’s range  position
● To ensure that buying decisions are based on a sound commercial framework to drive sales and  profit
● Initiate revenue generating activities with a focus on quality and trends
● Responsible for all sourcing of seasonal products and packaging
● Review and communicate financial information to assist in proactive and timely decision making for  the business
● Effectively communicate with the on-site Operations team, so each site is well briefed and confident in  their product knowledge and new launches
● To work closely with Visual Merchandising to ensure planograms optimise the look and  performance of each department
● To work in conjunction with the Marketing team to maximise social media and web presence for all  new launches and seasonal campaigns

● Is confident, patient, friendly, sociable, reliable and self-motivated with excellent interpersonal skills
● Approaches all tasks with enthusiasm and seizes opportunities to learn new skills or knowledge in order to improve their personal performance.
● Is adaptable, responding quickly and positively to changing requirements, which may mean getting involved in procedures that are not normally part of your day-to-day responsibilities. 

Essential Skills:
● Minimum of 5 years food & drink buying experience at a buyer level
● Microsoft Office proficient
● Strong negotiator with the ability to influence
● Numerate with highly commercial approach combined with a creative flair
● Have a great artisan supplier network, having worked in this category previously
● Experience in QSR / Hospitality sector
